I always say I'm a
photographer, but I never post my photos publicly. I have two Canon Pro
200 Printers, a Sony A7RIII and a Sony A7III, and a mess ton of other
gear and a few film cameras. But a crap ton of gear isn't what makes you
a photographer now, is it?
Confession: I have always hated the
idea of being a wedding photographer. It's not that I don't like
weddings - but often, as a wedding photographer, I ended up being the
wedding planner on top of being the photographer. It's the fact that
Americans love to see life through the eyes of a lie, and I can't do
that. Life is sad and happy.
So what gets me going these days?
Honestly, street photography, Earth. I find myself excited! My heart
flutters with each moment, each story, each memory.
These images were inspired by Richard Moose's Pink Congo,
until
recently I hadn't even known what infrared photography was. Once I
discovered that it is a thing - I was consumed by it. It was as if it
was created for my personal brand Aesthetically Dope. I have learned
that I have not been truthful in my photography. This self-awareness has
led me to ask myself critical questions - one in particular; do I still
want to be a photographer?
The answer is yes! I love the analog
feel of photography of the film, of creating. It's just that I have been
conditioned to think that photographers should do things one way. That
idea nearly killed what photography means to me. So I stopped listening
to others. I stopped searching for the validation that comes with the
territory. I created something that was 100% the way I see the
world-colorful and full of life. I guess the takeaway here is to
explore. You'll never grow if you don't try. I have learned to push the
boundaries of images. Make them...unique again...
